There are infinite possibilities to discover
Friuli Venezia Giulia: for example you can start from Isonzo
river, even attending to a fishing course, run down to the mouth
of the river, maybe by a canoe or a rubber dinghy. Here you can
visit the S.Giovanni in Tuba church, proceeding through Sentiero
Rilke, where Karst faces the Adriatic sea, to the inland, you
can reach the botanical garden of Carsiana, the Casa Carsica in
Rupingrande and the Grotta Gigante.
In autumn in the inland nearby the Karst boundary it is possible
to reap mushrooms with the help of expert mycologists. On the
other side, in Val Rosandra you can practise trekking and
climbing, or attend to a diving course in the Baia of Sistiana.
But also visit the archaeological site of Aquileia or spend
pleasant night with the pleasure of the table, in one of the
many characteristic place called “frasche”.
You can also leave from Gorizia by bike, after a visit in this
wonderful city, to take part at the Nozze Carsiche in the
Trieste’s Karst, but only after a stop in the characteristic “osmizza”,
little farms where you can taste typical products directly from
the producer a very simple service but really genuine.
Here are other example of our itineraries:

HISTORICAL ITINERARIES
Many pages of our history were written in
this region, background of the World War, fought also to obtain
back the area which at that time was under the Austrian role. So
there are many and interesting paths to run.
You can leave from Sacrario Militare of Redipuglia, The
Soldiers’memorial building of Redipuglia has been inaugurated in
1938 by the architect Giovanni Greppi and the sculptor Giannino
Castiglioni. The monument is situated on a slope of Monte Sei
Busi, scene of many bloody battles during World War. The
monument is organized like an army in fighting trim, below
stands the grave of the duke of Aosta, commander of the 3rd
army, at the sides the graves of his generals. Here in the
twenty-two large steps were buried 39.857 known fallen, while
the other 60.330 unknowns were put in the chapel on the top of
the mountain.
In the chapel and in the near rooms are preserved personal
belongings of the Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers. The
stately monument is situated in front of Monte Elia the first
military cemetery of the 3rd army, today a sort of open museum
well-known as Parco della Rimembranza. The main road bordered by
cypresses is decorated by reproductions of antiques made of
Karst stone and by epigraphs of the first memorial.
On the top of the hill the ruins of a Roman column celebrates
the memory of the fallen of every war, “without distinctions of
time and fortune”.
Another singular way to keep touch with the history of these
places is by train. The train will
ride on a part of a historical "Transalpina Railway",
which was inaugurated on July 19th 1906 in order to complete the
railway that linked Vienna and Central Europe with the
Adriatic regions of Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially with the
port at Trieste.
The construction of the railway was for those times very
complicated and demanded numerous exceptional architectural
achievements (tunnels, bridges, viaducts etc.), which made the
railway famous. Especially remarkable are the bridge of Solkan
with its 85 metres long arcade, which is still world largest,
and the tunnel of Podbrdo, the genuine passing under the Julian
Alps with the length of 6327 metres.
World conflicts of the previous century have caused Transalpina
loose its role of a great commercial railway and made it a
secondary line, which is nowadays reviving as a touristic
railway connecting Austria, Slovenia and Italy. The old train
will be pulled by a steam engine from the Railway Museum of
Ljubljana (Slovenia) and touch the most beautiful zones from
Gorizia to Bled, through wonderful natural landscape.
