Thanks to the varied features of its
territory which ranges from the sea to the Alps through plains,
highlands and hills, but also to its mild climate, influenced by
sea and winds which lower the degree of humidity, Friuli Venezia
Giulia is the ideal place to practise sports in the open air all
year round.
The mountain offers kilometres of wonderful
ski slopes, long cross-country ski tracks by the Julian
Alps, excursions through untouched landscapes. And at the same
time the opportunity to enjoy culture, traditional dishes, old
customs and traditions… as well as important sport, cultural and
artistic events.
If you love to combine sport and nature, you
can’t miss Piancavallo and Valcellina were all the best
solutions are available. In summer wonderful excursions
for all the family, in winter long cross-country skiing, and
downhill skiing could be practised on ski runs homologated
for international competition, also for snowboard lovers.
You can enjoy a Fabulous landscapes in every season in the huge,
37 thousand hectares large natural park of Friuli Dolomites,
which even contains an exciting area dedicated to large raptors
The slopes of Valcellina are a perfect destination to all kind
of skiers from inexperts to athletes, from free rider to
long-distance skier, or a family looking for a comfortable place
for children.
Instead, if you like to combine sport,
culture and wellness the Carnia is what you are looking for,
with its magic highs (it is said that here live elfs!), its
gastronomy, the thermal springs and its precious archaeological
sites. Here the thermal baths of Arta can offer a pleasant stay
perfect for your health. Summer is characterized by
trekking, excursions and walks, traditional habits and the
pleasure of the table. While in winter skiing is the main
activity.
And if you are
looking for the most majestic mountain, you have to reach the
area around Tarvisio,
in the heart of Julian Alps. Here you will find enchanted peaks,
a lot of trekking trails and hiking paths, one of the largest
forests in Europe and real gems: the
Fusine Lakes, among
the most fascinating places on Friuli mountains. In winter you
can also ski on a night slope and take the opportunity to
sky “borderless” on the slope system linking Italy, Austria and
Slovenia.
If you are a ski lover perfect
destinations are also Sella Nevea and Passo Pramollo.
Mountaineering
is feasible almost everywhere; the Karst of Trieste, The
falesie of Duino, the Napoleonica and Val Rosandra offer
perfect spot for climbing.
The hills instead are perfect for experiences by bike. An
example could be the tour which crosses the hills of Collio, so
famous for wines, through the hamlets of a green country runs
along the sea and the untouched lagoon of Marano, rich of
fishes, and reaches the mountains, where you can taste the true
malga cheese and simple but delicious dishes.
You can find many mountain bike tours
in the Karst of Trieste, riding on one of its thousand paths,
between sumach and bushes, with outlets on the sea or maybe with
a final stop in a Osmizza for a wine and local products
tasting.
Linked to its nature, Karst offers the
possibility to practise speleology, from the more
difficult descents, following the underground rivers, to the
more simple but not less suggestive experience.
Very particular in Trieste is also the presence of the Urban
Speleology.
In many watercourse of the region, especially
in the Isonzo river, rafting, canyoning e kayak are the
main activities.
While for daredevils there are many spots
equipped for climbing and hang gliding.
Quiet people will certainly appreciate wide
and painstaking golf courses.
Horse riding
centres are quickly developing in the region, here you can rent
a horse or find a place for yours.
As matter as water sports... thanks to a130
km long coast, 23 yacht ports with over 15.000 moorings and
berths, shipyards, a well-equipped service network, Friuli
Venezia Giulia is the ideal destination... whether you happily
possess a pleasure boat or you would just like to enjoy
your first holidays on board! Sailing lovers can take
part in the hundreds of sailing races organized by sailing clubs
every year... as well as, of course, in the Barcolana: a
traditional mid-October event in the Gulf of Trieste in which
over 2.000 sailing boats with the most important international
skippers compete in a unique sailing kermis.
Finally, the sea offers the possibility to
practise windsurf, canoe and diving, with well equipped
and qualified training school in all the main costal resorts.
