Thanks to the varied features of its territory which ranges from the sea to the Alps through plains, highlands and hills, but also to its mild climate, influenced by sea and winds which lower the degree of humidity, Friuli Venezia Giulia is the ideal place to practise sports in the open air all year round.

The mountain offers kilometres of wonderful ski slopes, long cross-country ski tracks by the Julian Alps, excursions through untouched landscapes. And at the same time the opportunity to enjoy culture, traditional dishes, old customs and traditions… as well as important sport, cultural and artistic events.

If you love to combine sport and nature, you can’t miss Piancavallo and Valcellina were all the best solutions are available. In summer wonderful excursions for all the family, in winter long cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing could be practised on ski runs homologated for international competition, also for snowboard lovers. You can enjoy a Fabulous landscapes in every season in the huge, 37 thousand hectares large natural park of Friuli Dolomites, which even contains an exciting area dedicated to large raptors The slopes of Valcellina are a perfect destination to all kind of skiers from inexperts to athletes, from free rider to long-distance skier, or a family looking for a comfortable place for children.

Instead, if you like to combine sport, culture and wellness the Carnia is what you are looking for, with its magic highs (it is said that here live elfs!), its gastronomy, the thermal springs and its precious archaeological sites. Here the thermal baths of Arta can offer a pleasant stay perfect for your health. Summer is characterized  by trekking, excursions and walks, traditional habits and the pleasure of the table. While in winter skiing is the main activity.

And if you are looking for the most majestic mountain, you have to reach the area around Tarvisio, in the heart of Julian Alps. Here you will find enchanted peaks, a lot of trekking trails and hiking paths, one of the largest forests in Europe and real gems: the Fusine Lakes, among the most fascinating places on Friuli mountains. In winter you can also ski on a night slope and take the opportunity to sky “borderless” on the slope system linking Italy, Austria and Slovenia.

If you are a ski lover perfect destinations are also Sella Nevea and Passo Pramollo.

Mountaineering is feasible almost everywhere; the Karst of Trieste, The falesie of Duino, the Napoleonica and Val Rosandra offer perfect spot for climbing.
The hills instead are perfect for experiences by bike. An example could be the  tour which crosses the hills of Collio, so famous for wines, through the hamlets of a green country runs along the sea and the untouched lagoon of Marano, rich of fishes, and reaches the mountains, where you can taste the true malga cheese and simple but delicious dishes.

You can find many mountain bike tours in the Karst of Trieste, riding on one of its thousand paths, between sumach and bushes, with outlets on the sea or maybe with a final stop in a Osmizza for a wine and local products tasting.

Linked to its nature, Karst offers the possibility to practise speleology, from the more difficult descents, following the underground rivers, to the more simple  but not less suggestive experience.
Very particular in Trieste is also the presence of the Urban Speleology.

In many watercourse of the region, especially in the Isonzo river, rafting, canyoning e kayak are the main activities.

While for daredevils there are many spots equipped for climbing and hang gliding.

Quiet people will certainly appreciate wide and painstaking golf courses.

Horse riding centres are quickly developing in the region, here you can rent a horse or find a place for yours.

As matter as water sports... thanks to a130 km long coast, 23 yacht ports with over 15.000 moorings and berths, shipyards, a well-equipped service network, Friuli Venezia Giulia is the ideal destination... whether you happily possess a pleasure boat or you would just like to enjoy your first holidays on board! Finally, the sea offers  the possibility to practise windsurf, canoe and diving, with well equipped and qualified training school in all the main costal resorts.
