The green country between the Alps, the
Mediterranean and the plain of Pannonia, boasts all the beauties
of the old continent and offers to the visitor everything he can
require: snowy mountain, towns for all the tastes (from lively
and refined metropolises to small historical and art towns, to
delicious villages of fishermen), the most beautiful Karst
caves, modern thermal structures, medieval castles and dwellings
and the best casinos of Europe. Here some ideas for a route:
COSTAL ITINERARIES
The small strip of earth of the Slovenia
which faces the Adriatic Sea Coastal is long less than 50
kilometres. In this narrow territory are placed very important
centres: the delicious historical town of Pirano and
Isola, by the typical medieval and Venetian appearance, and
the ancient Capodistria, today and industrial town and
very important port. More tourist is the modern Portorose, place
of business of several hotel structures and prestigious casinos.
In this context very important is also the sporting sector, not
only as regards the bathing (more developed in the neighbourhood
of Croatia) but also all the sports linked to the sea, with
particular reference to the sail. By a Naturalistic point of
view very important the salt pans of Sicciole, rich of
characteristic flora and fauna.
CULTURAL ITINERARIES
The offer of the towns to visit in
Slovenia is really varied. Besides the already named resorts of
the coast, it ranges from important centre like Lubiana,
the Renaissance Maribor and the medieval Novo Mesto,
to go on with the smallest but also precious towns of the inside
like the very ancient Ptuj, the "Slovene Venice"
Castagnevizza on the Cherca, the medieval Skofja Loka,
the delicious Bled on the alpine lake and Idria
famous for the refined laces and the mercury mine. The castles,
splendid examples of defensive architecture certainly deserve a
stops. From the rough medieval appearance of the castles of
Celje and Socerb to the artistic refinements of
Olimje and Brezice, up to the most enchanting corners
of Otočec,
Mokrice and Kostanjevica, in the green of
wonderful natural backgrounds.
SPORT AND NATURALISTIC ITINERARIES
Apart the small band coastline, Slovenia is
essentially an hilly and mountainous Country. This is the reason
why its inhabitants are considered the most ancient skiers in
central Europe: from simple ski-runs for families with
children up to those in which the competitions of World Cup are
disputed, the offer is nearly boundless, from the long cross
country ski to the alpine ski.
In the same mountains, and particularly in the National Park of
the Triglav, the mountaineering is always practicable.
The sport lovers will find thousand other possibility of
relaxing: from the touring to the trekking, from
the bicycle paths to the horse riding. The horse-racing
will find here great source of satisfaction: next to the border
with Italy is placed the famous centre of breeding and training
of horses of Lipizza (Lipica), founded in 1580 by the archduke
Carlo of Stiria son of the emperor Ferdinando I of Austria, to
get an appreciated species to use in the parades to the court in
Vienna and in the horseback riding of high level.
Today the centre is an important school of horse riding and
dressage, but it also famous for the shows of equestrian ability
offered to the huge international public from April to October.
For the most reckless in various places of Slovenia it is
possible to practise free-climbing, hang
gliding, and ascensions in hot-air balloon.
Instead, for who prefers to explore the secrets of the earth are
available spectacular caves (important that of Postumia) and
thousand other Karst formations.
Finally, all the sports tied up to the sea are practicable (sail,
canoe, snorkeling, diving, windsurf...) and also in the
numerous streams and rivers (rafting, kayak and canoe).
AMUSEMENT AND HEALTH ITINERARIES
A valid reason for a stay in Slovenia could
be the rich thermal offer: modern and equipped centres where all
the most important beauty and health treatments are practised
are available in the northern part of the Country, combined to
mineral waters of medical importance (Rogarska, Radenska, Donat,...).
Near Novo Mesto, and on the sea, where besides the traditional
therapies it is also available the thalassotherapy with the use
of the sea mud. The thermal centres, are always a good
point of departure for pleasant excursions in the zone.
A different type of fun, also appreciated more than anti
cellulites, reducing, depurative and anti-stress treatments, is
constituted by the elegant casinos distributed on the
whole national territory. Some structures, for example in
Portorose, gather in the same place the gambling with relaxing
thermal swimming pools.
WINE AND GASTRONOMY ITINERARIES
In Slovenia are always mixed influences both
of the east and the west, both of the North and the South, and
this can also be noticed in the typical national dishes
very different from area to area, this can also be noticed in
the over two thousand national dishes, that range from the fish
to the game, from the vegetables to the sausages, and embracing
all the principal European groceries. Also appreciated the
production of local wines: some Slovenian local wines
boast over two thousand years of life. A wine and gastronomic
tour could be a good way to discover Slovenia: to the cultural
and naturalistic aspects of every region will include a menu
based on typical dishes of local production.
