Situated between Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, in the
immediate hinterland of the most beautiful Dalmatian coast,
facing the ocean with a minimal outlet of 23 kilometres,
BOSNIA ERZEGOVINA opens
finally its doors to the tourists, removing for this occasion
the dirt of its most prestigious family jewels: cities
without equals with an oriental flavour, pleasant villages
surrounded by picturesque landscapes and, above all, the
spirituality and mystery of the sacred places of
Međugorje. The mix of religions (Muslim, Orthodox, Catholic and
Protestant), different populations (Bosnians, Croatians and
Serbs) landscapes (from the mountains passing through a
continental area to a Mediterranean territory) makes this
country one of the most particular destinations, which knows how
to satisfy even the most exigent tourist looking for unusual and
genuine places.
FROM THE TURKISH MINARETS
TO THE SPIRITUALITY OF MEĐUGORJE
-
SARAJEVO:
capital of this nation, already since centuries economic,
cultural and political centre of the entire territory, it is
for sure one of the most characteristic and charming cities
of the Balkan area. Situated on the banks of a little river,
the Miljacka, in the middle of a vast and massif mountain
area, it has to thank for its beauty and particularity the
fusion of different architectures which testimony the
different dominations of the town: the Turkish one with a an
hundred minarets and the old characteristic bazaar,
the Austrian one with classic buildings and
churches in liberty style, and at least but not last the
modern era with its high skyscrapers and the
futuristic buildings. The following constructions are
especially worth a particular notation: the markets,
the mosques and the antique and picturesque
Turkish bazaar, which is a proper jewel, one of the most
characteristic ones in Europe.
-
MOSTAR:
considered one of the most beautiful Turkish city of the
Balkan area, it rises in a marvellous location encircled by
vineyards, between mountains on both banks of the river
Neretva. Once it was the capital of a Roman province, called
Andetrium; the actual name (Stari
Most,
“old
bridge”)
appeared around the XV century, after the Turkish conquest,
when the celebrated architect of that time, Hajrudin,
projected the famous bridge with an arch, similar to the
back of a donkey, which became the symbol of the city. The
old
district of
Kujundžiluk
is very particular and was
founded by the Turks in a strategic position to ward the
river, with its characteristic cafés, in the XV century. The
mosques,
the
sanctuaries,
the
fountains
for the
ablutions and the ancient
towers
complete the scenery of a destination which you should not
lose.
-
MEĐUGORJE:
last but not least. For all those who have been here, the
visit to this small village, situated in the midland of the
line which brings you from the coast up to Mostar and
Sarajevo, could be the most spiritual and profound
experience they have ever tried. Međugorje was defined "the
place where heaven touches earth”;
the mysticism you respire here is something of tangible:
since 1981, year of the first Marian apparitions, millions
of pilgrims coming from all over the world have visited this
sacred place and prayed in the
Sanctuary
of
the
Holy Mary of the Peace, receiving
spiritual strength and renewing their energies. A huge
number of sick people are healed in a miracle way and
numerous sceptic people changed their mind after spending
some time here. If you believe or not, only the curiosity is
worth a travel.
Come and visit the country of the miracles
