All the territory around Pordenone is a real
paradise for people who loves art and culture, full of
prestigious artistic sites (especially collections of frescos
from 13th to 17th century), but also natural oasis and areas
assigned to the handicraft, agricultural and industrial
development, always with respect of nature.
Many towns of the district hosting beautiful churches and
important artistic buildings.
SACILE
Crossed by Livenza River, the architectures
of this little town show the influence of the Republic
Serenissima which dominated this area. You have to visit the
Duomo of San Nicolò, of late 14th Century, inside there
are a large number of Renaissance frescos and canvas by Palma il
Giovane and Francesco Bassano. Very interesting is also the main
square, Piazza del Popolo, bordered by characteristic
porticos and the Loggia Comunale of 14th Century.
SAN VITO
AL TAGLIAMENTO
Agricultural centre with many textile
industries, it is a pleasant and peaceful place not so far by
the right bank of Tagliamento river. In its churches and
buildings of Medieval appearance there are many
collections of frescos by Amalteo. Very interesting is the
Museo Provinciale of Peasant Life which shows many tools of
past rural life.
SESTO AL REGHENA
It is a very small agricultural centre famous
for the Abbazia of Santa Maria in Sylvis, erected in early 8th
Century , by Benedictine monks, and re-elaborated in the
centuries.
Signs of Longobard influence are visible everywhere, also very
interesting are the frescos inspired by Giotto and that one of
15th Century as well.
The town is also known for its concerts and festivals, and the
gorgeous natural landscape famous for its natural springs.
SPILIMBERGO
Situated in the highland of Friuli on the
right bank of Tagliamento river, it has a delicious Medieval
centre full of little narrow roads and porticos, dominated by
the impressive Castle, known already in 1216. Its
beautiful Gothic Duomo of Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the
most famous of this area.
The prestigious Mosaic School is known
over Italy, and every year a large number of students from all
over the world attends to its courses.
VALVASONE
Quite Medieval town, characterized by roads
bordered with porticos and ruins of the ancient walls.
There is a beautiful castle but the main attraction is the
spectacular organ in the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo. It is
the only one of the Venetian period of ‘500, still existing in
Italy, its body was painted by Pordenone and Amalteo. An
authentic jewel of Medieval architecture.
PORCIA,
CORDOVADO, ZOPPOLA
Housing important Medieval castles still in
good conditions.
